Life in Sydney isn’t cheap- but what a life it is!  It sits on one of the most beautiful natural harbours in the world, on the south-eastern coast of the Tasman Sea. The 40,000 people who move there each year can’t resist the combination of city life and beach culture.  More than 4 million people call Sydney home. Winter temperatures fall between 9 and 19° Celsius, and in summer you can expect average highs in the mid 20s.

Sydney regularly features in ‘top ten’ lists of the world’s most liveable places.  It’s the biggest city in Australia and the hub of commerce, law, media and telecommunications.  Sydney has a visible range of lifestyles and a buzzing arts and music community, that often sees it compared to New York. Serviced by a fabulous train system, you can be whisked away from your office in town and be at the beach for a swim before dinner.  Even the northernmost beach communities are a doable hour and a half commute.  Move to Sydney and you will never be stuck for day trips and destination weekends. Catch a train to one of the small towns in the Blue Mountains; or visit the Hunter Valley wine district.

Compared to some Australian cities, the cost of living in Sydney is high.  But average salaries are higher too.  You will pay top dollar to own an historic, hip inner city terrace or a beach front apartment, but prices are lower in some of the outer suburbs.

Sydney has an excellent state school system. The Australian High School for the Performing Arts is based there, and there are many private schools to choose from. Sydney is no exception to the Australian love of sport; there is plenty of opportunity for training and competition for children and young people.  Sydney has two universities, and several technical colleges (TAFES).
