On the ‘sunset strip’ of the Maroochy Coast, sits a lovely seaside community.  Originally called Potts Point, early developer Thomas O’Connor renamed it Alexandra Headland in 1916, in honour of the widow of King Edward VII.  The locals just call it Alex.

With Maroochydore to the North and Mooloolaba to the South- Alex sits right in the middle. A very green and leafy suburb, it’s a bit hillier than some of its coastal neighbours. Further adding to the charm are the views to Mt Coolum and the small holiday cottages dotting the hillside, dating from the 1920s when Alexandra Headland first became popular as a resort village.

The excellent beach sheltered under the heads is patrolled for swimming, and the beachfront is well provided with grassy picnic spots and barbeques. Aprox 3500 people live in Alexandra Headland , but the population swells in holiday season. The warm peaceful Alex lifestyle is perfect for young families. Plenty of recreational activities are within easy driving distance. Alex is about an hour’s drive from Brisbane; the scenic Hinterland towns of Maleny and Montville are just 25kms away; and Australia Zoo and Underwater World are both an easy family day trip.

The nearest state schools for families living at Alexandra Headland are Mooloolaba Primary School, Mountain Creek Primary School and Mountain Creek High School. The primary to year 12 Sunshine Coast Grammar School is a little over 10kms away, and there are a number of other schools nearby, including the Chancellor State College at Sippy Downs, The Matthew Flinders Anglican College at Buderim and the Stellar Maris School at Maroochydore among others.
