Established in 1804 by Lt. Gov. Collins, Hobart used to be a place for Irish and British convicts. Every January and December it becomes the venue of the prestigious Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race on the perfectly protected deepwater harbour of the Derwent River.
